Petition: Emergency School Street outside Rosendale

The Rosendale Clean Air group has set up a petition to ask for a temporary closure of Rosendale Road at drop off and pick up times:

We want a temporary school street outside Rosendale Primary School while the road works take place on Norwood Road. At normal times our school is just within the legal EU pollution limit. However, at the moment the traffic has increased hugely, due to the road works. We feel this must have pushed pollution up to illegal levels, particularly around school drop off and pick up times. We are very concerned. We have small children who are particularly vulnerable to pollution. We would like an immediate, emergency school street, while this situation continues. In the long term we would like a school street as soon as possible.

A school street is when the road around a street is closed at drop off and pick up times, to reduce pollution levels. Cars of residents, workers and disabled people can still access the road.

Welcome to the Clean Air for Rosendale Blog

We are a network of Rosendale parents who passionately care about improving air quality around our children’s school. Pollution levels around Rosendale are close to the legal limit (and very likely exceed it at peak times). The effect that daily exposure to bad air has on everyone’s health, and in particular on the condition of our children’s growing lungs, has been confirmed.

There are a number of initiatives underway to address this issue – from TfL’s STARS scheme that inspires young Londoners to travel to school sustainably, to the school and the PTA’s own efforts to local grassroot organisations – that we as a group support.

The Clean Air for Rosendale blog is a place to share information on what’s going on, to publicise new data on air pollution and on its links to health and wellbeing and to interact. We always welcome new volunteers to the group and are happy to receive input.
