Come and join us for Walking Wednesdays…

We want to celebrate how well our Walk To School Week is going, so we’ve arranged a lucky dip with local businesses. All you need to do is sign up to our blog via email (bottom of this page), or follow our twitter account and you’ll be entered into the prize draw! We’ll pull lucky names out of the hat next Friday, May 28th.
The lucky dip: there’s an array of playground padlocks, these are small padlocks that are suitable for children’s bikes, LED bike lights for the front and back of children’s bikes, some children’s biking t-shirts and useful little rucksacks. Peddle My Wheels, a circular economy business that is trying to make cycling affordable for everyone, kindly donated these.
PLUS a bottle of Champagne! From local wine shop, Wild+Lees.
We’ll be in touch if you’ve won, next Friday. Good luck!

To celebrate our Walk To School Week, and make it easier for parents, we are having a Walking Bus tomorrow, Wednesday 19th May. A walking bus is a when a group of children are walked from one place to another. There are bus stops along the way, where children can join.
If it’s a regular walking bus, the idea is that not all parents need to go with the children each day. Instead they take it in turns, ensuring there are a safe number of kids per adult. This way, parents are freed up some days of the week.
We would love to have regular walking buses, but until then, we are doing a one off with all adults and children. Please join us! It’s a great chance to let your kids be sociable before school, and for you to chat to fellow parents. If you’re interested in doing a walking bus more frequently, please email us with your postcode, and we’ll matchmake interested parents. Email: cleanair.rosendale@gmail.com.
There are two routes, one from Brockwell Park Lido, the other from Wigwam, the toyshop on Rosendale Road. These first stops are our suggested Park & Stride locations, so those who need to drive can join in too, at the same time as keeping pollution away from the school.
Buses will arrive at school in time for first drop off.

Stop 1 – 8.20 Brockwell Park Lido car park
Stop 2 – 8.30 Brockwell Park/Rosendale road gate
Stop 3 – 8.35 Rosendale/ Harwarden Grove

We can’t wait to see children and parents walking, scooting and cycling to school, and enjoying the benefits!
Did you know:
Walking to school is good for your child’s physical health?
Walking to school makes your child happy?
Walking to school helps your child’s brain work better?
Walking to school makes our streets safer and less polluted?
By not using our cars, we’re reducing the level of pollution our children breathe. Children are more vulnerable to air pollution, as their lungs are still developing, they breathe more deeply and more frequently than adults and they are closer to car exhausts. Air pollution is linked to asthma and stunted lung growth in children. Even if the health impact of pollution is not obvious now, we know air pollution is storing up serious health issues for our children as they grow.
At the moment research shows children on the school run are exposed to five times the level of normal air pollution, because school run traffic – which follows the same routes as children walking to school – accounts for a 25% of rush hour traffic. By walking, scooting and cycling to school we are driving less and keeping air pollution away from all our children.
According to a report by the Mayor of London in 2018, Lambeth has one of the worst levels of air pollution in London. To find out about air quality around Rosendale go to this blog page, or for pollution information on where you live, have a look at this website.
We really hope you enjoy the benefits of walking, cycling or scooting this week!

The school are taking part in the Living Streets Walk to School Week 17-21 May. The children will learn all about the walking superpowers…..from improving mental & physical well-being to creating safer, less polluted streets.
Each pupil will be challenged to travel sustainably to school ( walk, cycle, scoot or park & stride) every day that week and will get stickers for their journeys. Park & stride involves parking well before the school & walking the rest of the way.
Parents! please help your children participate by enabling them to use sustainable travel to get to school that week. We have provided a map here of the safest routes to school through parks, as well as free parking suggestions for Park & Stride at the Brockwell Park Lido car park to the North of the school & near WigWam toy shop to the South of the school.
